Bus Adventures Costa Rica

3 May

Stef and I have been incredibly busy and having a blast. So, there are definitely a few things to blog about 🙂 Here are some highlights so far….

We decided to go with public transportation from San Jose to La Fortuna. It’s similar to a greyhound bus, except there is no air conditioning or washrooms. The journey took about 5 hours and cost $4.00. Clearly, we are paying too much for transportation in Canada! Luckily, Stef and I got seats, but there were at least 30 people standing in the aisles. They were standing for 5 hours! There was no way I could stand that long, on a bus, with no air, and through the worst road conditions.

We were doing fine until the last leg of the journey. I was dying from the heat and starving. To make matters worse, our window was broken, so we couldn’t even open it! Everyone was yelling at us in Spanish to open the window, but we couldn’t. Several men attempted to act all manly and open the window themselves. No such luck. We all had to deal with it and not so pleasantly. haha

Along the ride, Stef saw a dead cow carcass and an older woman was sitting on my arm. Interesting and annoying to say the least. Anyways, we arrived alive, but then had to walk up a steep hill to our hostel, the Arenal Backpacker’s Hostel. Thankfully, they had a pool! We took a dip and went out to dinner. Funny enough, the front desk guy didn’t even recognize us after we showered. We must have looked awful after that bus journey!

La Fortuna is close to Arenal Volcano. There is a nice view but it was pretty cloudy most of the time, so we couldn’t see the peak until today. Sorry to cut this short, but Stef and I are about to see some snakes. I’ll try to pop on later tonight and blog more about La Fortuna. We went on some fun tours and met some interesting people. More to come!

volcano’s are alright, but today I got an “S” rating in resident evil 5 mercenaries. Its really hard. You need to get 60 000 points or higher, and I got it.I miss you a lot.

Well I guess you won’t complain about riding in a back of someone’s car now. I’m glad you’re both enjoying yourselves. Make sure you take lots of pictures.
